Emma Monod

Biography

Emma is an articling student at Gilbert’s LLP, where she supports the firm’s litigation team. She draws on her background in science and the arts to help clients resolve their intellectual property and technology problems.

Before joining Gilbert’s, Emma gained in-house counsel experience in the pharmaceutical and health sectors, where she worked on matters involving intellectual property, commercial contracting, and privacy. In these roles, she worked with legal teams on research collaborations and strategies to bring new innovations to market.

She completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School, where she focused on intellectual property, contracts, and comparative law. During law school, Emma worked as a research assistant on projects involving copyright and artificial intelligence regulation, contributing to work with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Centre for International Governance Innovation. She also completed an international program in Intellectual Property Licensing Transactions at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.

Emma holds an MSc in Physiology, Cell, and Developmental Biology from the University of Waterloo, where her graduate research examined antiviral immunity using double-stranded RNA and novel immune-stimulating molecules. She also earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University, where she served as concertmaster of the symphony orchestra and performed across Canada with the National Youth Orchestra.

Outside of law, Emma enjoys running, yoga, and taking long walks with her dog, Ruby.
