Swapna Prakash

Biography

Swapna is a business-minded advocate who brings an entrepreneurial perspective to her work. As an associate at Gilbert’s, she supports a broad litigation practice focused on commercial and intellectual property disputes. She enjoys working with clients in innovative industries and helping them find practical, business-focused solutions to complex problems.

Before joining Gilbert’s, Swapna developed a strong interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. While at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, she advised start-ups on intellectual property and business strategy through the university’s Entrepreneurship Hatchery, helping early-stage companies protect and grow their ideas. She also taught “Entrepreneurship for Engineers” as a teaching assistant in the Faculty of Engineering, where she guided students in developing, refining, and pitching their business ventures. These experiences shaped her understanding of how legal strategy can support innovation and commercial success.

Swapna earned her JD from the University of Toronto and graduated with distinction from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Sciences, focusing on microbiology, immunology, and cellular physiology. She also gained advocacy experience as a caseworker with Downtown Legal Services, representing clients in criminal and academic matters.

Outside of work, Swapna enjoys baking, practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a blue belt, and hiking in British Columbia, where she has explored trails such as Garibaldi Lake, Joffre Lakes, and the Grouse Grind.
