Andrea represents clients in all manner of intellectual property and commercial disputes, including before the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Ontario Superior Court. Her practice focuses primarily in pharmaceutical, software and tech patent litigation, and commercial transactions involving IP.
Andrea has diverse experience, which gives her a unique perspective on legal issues inside and outside the courtroom. Prior to joining Gilbert’s, Andrea spent time in Beijing where she worked for the M&A group of one China’s premier business law firms and survived driving a rickshaw more than once. Andrea also summered as law student for the Organization of American States and Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Washington, D.C., where she briefed cases on freedom of expression, indigenous economic rights, and state protection against paramilitary groups.
Andrea completed her BSc at the University of Toronto, where she was selected as research student for the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and published a peer-reviewed scientific article. During her time at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law she also volunteered as a caseworker for Downtown Legal Services and summer student for the Ontario Court of Justice (family and youth criminal divisions).
Andrea is also fluent in Spanish. When she is not working, she enjoys anything involving travel, short poetry, and espresso.
