Biography
Megan is an associate at Gilbert’s with a focus on intellectual property litigation. She has comprehensive trial and appeal experience in complex patent litigation, acting as counsel in patent infringement and validity matters before the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada. She also has a keen interest in copyright law, with experience in enforcing clients’ copyright rights in pre-litigation. Megan greatly enjoys working alongside scientists, clinicians, engineers, and creatives to craft strategies unique to the particular facts of each proceeding and the specific needs of each client.
Before joining Gilbert’s, Megan gained experience as an articling student and associate at another boutique intellectual property law firm specializing in pharmaceutical patent litigation.
Megan completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2019. As a student Megan participated in Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot, in which she finished as a semi-finalist in the oral rounds and won the Gordon F. Henderson Award for the best appellant factum. She has since had the pleasure of acting as a judge for the Fox Moot on several occasions. Megan also was a member of the Osgoode Innocence Project, during which she was involved in conviction ministerial review matters as well as civil litigation in respect of Crown disclosure.
Megan graduated from McMaster University in 2016 with a BHSc. (Honours) in Health Sciences, studying an eclectic mix of human biology, child health issues, and health policy. She credits the program’s unique inquiry-based learning as setting the foundation for her ability to distill large amounts of information down to discrete, bite-sized issues that can be tackled through research.
Outside of law, Megan enjoys watching films, reading, and hanging out with her husband and corgi.
