Alyssa will graduate from the Canada/United States Dual JD/JD Program at University of Ottawa and Michigan State University College of Law in 2018. In 2014, she obtained a Bachelor of Social Science in International Studies and Modern Languages, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Ottawa.

Alyssa adds to the Gilbert’s flare for musical talent, as she is often heard belting out tunes across the office… even on a Saturday afternoon. Her musical talents continue in her role as Founding Member and Show Director of the Michigan State University Law Musical Theatre Revue, which debuted its annual variety show in March 2017.

Alyssa is equally happy to harmonize in a discussion about intellectual property and technology law on either side of the border. She has been exposed to a variety of these topics in preparing academic articles, presentations, and workshops with the Open African Innovation Research (Open AIR) Network at the University of Ottawa since January 2015. Alyssa had the opportunity to present her work on Measuring Innovation in Africa: Indicators for Contextually Appropriate STI Policy at the Institute of African Studies Second Annual Undergraduate Research Conference in October 2016 at Carleton University. Her co-authored work with Professor Jeremy de Beer on Intellectual Property Rights in the Recreational Cannabis Market will be published in the University of British Columbia Law Review this year.

At the University of Ottawa, Alyssa refined her writing and research skills as part of the Legal Writing Academy, Legal Research and Writing Fellowship, and Global Technology Law and Policy programs.

Next year, Alyssa will work with the Great Lakes First Amendment Law Clinic and the Housing Clinic at MSU Law. She will also represent MSU Law at the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition, alongside her teammates.

Alyssa dreams of making the court room a stage and she is happy to learn from the Gilbert’s group of inspiring litigators.
